From Coach Randy Shuman’s banner 17-4 season to the long rebuilding years under Fred King — a decade that tested the program’s resilience. Mike Salmons earned All-State honors, and the Tigers reached the Regional in 1983–84. 105 wins, 137 losses across eleven seasons.

Sistersville Tigers Basketball

1978–79 (13-9)

Coach: Chuck Heinlein

Heinlein guided the team to a 13–9 record with tough matchups against Bishop Donahue, Gilmer County, and Magnolia. Sistersville won two overtime games — Tyler County (65–63 OT) and Paden City (61–59 OT). Defeated Wirt County 55–53 in the Sectional before falling to Bishop Donahue 48–28.

The best record of the era under new coach Randy Shuman. Mike Salmons earned All-State honors as the Tigers posted a dominant 17–4 campaign, with wins over Magnolia three times and a thrilling OT victory over Williamstown (82–75). Despite the outstanding regular season, the Tigers fell to Tyler County 51–54 in the Sectional at St. Marys.

Two overtime losses — Doddridge County (63–65 OT) and Ritchie County (49–52 OT) — kept the record close. Fell to Paden City 43–54 in the Sectional final.
